Calton Village, Glasgow

Project Overview
The Calton Village development in Glasgow, led by McTaggart Construction, is part of the Wheatley Group’s housing initiative, designed to provide high-quality homes while ensuring the highest standards of fire safety. We at Holemasters Fire Protections Ltd played a crucial role in implementing a bespoke fire safety solution to protect the structure from fire hazards.

The Challenge
Initially, fire safety considerations focused primarily on the protection of primary and secondary steel. However, a critical gap was identified in terms of compartmentation and heat spread, which are essential to preventing the passage of smoke, flames, and toxic gases. Addressing this gap required a tailored approach that could integrate seamlessly into the development while meeting strict fire safety regulations.

The Solution
As an approved installer of Firefly solutions, we collaborated closely with TBA Firefly and McTaggart Construction to install a fully tested 60-minute insulation & integrity system using Firefly’s Batt system. This solution was tested at WarringtonFire, ensuring compliance with real-life fire scenarios and regulatory standards. Our system effectively created fire-resistant barriers, preventing fire spread while maintaining structural integrity.

Key Features of the Fire Protection System:

  • 60-minute integrity and insulation using Firefly’s Batt system.
  • Fully tested and certified design
  • Expert installation by our team at Holemasters Fire Protections, ensuring compliance with fire safety regulations.
  • Collaboration with McTaggart Construction and Firefly to develop a seamless fire safety solution.

The Outcome
Through close collaboration and expert planning, we successfully implemented a fire safety solution that ensures the highest level of protection for residents and the structural integrity of the development. This project highlights the importance of working together with industry partners to achieve fire safety excellence in multi-storey residential projects.
